Komodo Open Trip 3D2N Aboard Yumana Liveaboard: Itinerary, Cabins & Price

Yumana is a traditional Indonesian phinisi — a wooden sailing liveaboard — measuring 32 metres by 6 metres across three decks, with eight cabins, an indoor lounge and dining room, a sky deck and a sunbathing area on the main deck. On a shared departure you have your own private cabin with its own bathroom and air conditioning, and you share the decks, the dining table and the tender with the rest of that sailing.

What a 3D2N open trip actually looks like

Three days and two nights is the shortest itinerary that still reaches every headline stop in the park without sprinting. You board in the afternoon of day one, sleep two nights at anchor, and disembark late morning on day three — which normally leaves enough margin for an afternoon flight back to Bali. Cabins and prices on a shared departure

Every cabin on Yumana has a queen bed with an extra bed available, air conditioning and a private bathroom. The difference between categories is deck position, view and space — not service level. The Royal Suite is the only cabin with a private balcony and a jacuzzi.

Deck position matters more than most guests expect. Lower-deck Superior and Deluxe cabins sit closest to the waterline, which means the least roll but the most engine noise while under way. What is included, and what you pay on top

Park fees are the item most often misquoted online. The most defensible current figure is from IDR 250,000 per foreign visitor per day for marine-park entrance, and some routes are sold as a bundled route ticket instead of a per-day charge. Regulations here have changed repeatedly — the IDR 3,750,000 annual premium-membership scheme announced in 2022 was cancelled and is not enforced — so treat any figure you read as indicative and confirm the exact amount with us before departure. Who this trip suits — and who it does not

Book the 3D2N open trip if you are travelling as a couple, a pair of friends or solo; you want Padar, Pink Beach, dragons and mantas in one clean loop; you are comfortable sharing decks and meal times with a dozen or so other guests; and you would rather spend the difference on a better cabin than on chartering the whole vessel.

Do not book it if you need the boat to yourself, you want to set your own departure hour and route order, you are travelling with a group large enough to fill several cabins, or you are planning a celebration that needs the decks to be private. In all four cases the private full-boat charter is the right product, and it is quoted on request rather than from a rate card.

Practicalities before you fly

Komodo Airport in Labuan Bajo is the gateway. Several Indonesian carriers fly Denpasar–Labuan Bajo daily and block time is roughly one hour to one hour fifteen. Take a morning flight on departure day so a delay does not cost you the sailing. On the return, allow a comfortable buffer after the late-morning harbour arrival rather than booking the first flight out.

Pack light and soft-sided: reef-safe sunscreen, a rash guard, trainers or trail sandals for the Padar and dragon walks, a dry bag, seasickness tablets if you are prone, and any prescription medication in your hand luggage. Frequently asked questions

Is there a minimum number of guests for a 3D2N open trip?

Shared departures run to a minimum group size, and Signature Cabin I on the main deck carries its own minimum of two guests. Some quiet-season dates are held open until enough cabins are confirmed. Message us with your dates and we will tell you straight away whether that departure is already confirmed or still filling.

What happens if weather closes Padar Island?

The captain substitutes. Padar is an exposed anchorage and the tender landing is the first thing to go in a strong southerly. When that happens we swap in a sheltered alternative — typically an extra snorkel block or an earlier run to the dragon site — and try Padar again on the return leg if conditions allow. We do not promise a fixed route, because no honest Komodo operator can.

Can non-swimmers and non-divers join?

Yes. No dive certification is needed for an open trip. Life jackets and flotation aids are on board, the crew will accompany weaker swimmers in the water, and every in-water stop is optional — several guests each sailing stay on deck. How much luggage can I bring on board?

Cabins are compact, as they are on any phinisi. One soft duffel or backpack per person plus a daypack fits comfortably; hard-shell suitcases do not stow well. If you are on a longer Indonesia trip, leave the large case at your Labuan Bajo hotel or with our office and travel with a small bag for the two nights.

How bad is the seasickness risk?

Most of the route runs inside the archipelago, so crossings are short and largely sheltered. The exposed stretches are the runs between the southern and central park zones, and they are worse in the December–March wet season. Take medication before you board rather than after you feel it, choose a lower-deck cabin if you are sensitive, and stay on deck in fresh air when under way.

How do I hold a date?
