How Much a Komodo Liveaboard Really Costs (All-In Breakdown)

What are the actual line items?

Most people underbudget Komodo not because the cabin fare surprises them but because they forget the four or five things around it. Here is the full list, using Yumana’s real published shared-departure rates as the anchor.

Rupiah is the billed currency. As a rough orientation only, at around IDR 16,300 to the US dollar the cabin fares above sit roughly between USD 300 and USD 570 per person for the sailing — treat that as indicative, since exchange rates move and your invoice is in rupiah. What does the wider market look like?

For context rather than as our own claim: industry reporting on Komodo liveaboards puts budget shared boats from around USD 150 per night, mid-range multi-day trips at roughly USD 600 to USD 1,600 per person for a 4D3N, and luxury vessels from around USD 500 per night upward. Yumana sits in the upper-mid part of that spread — a genuine 32-metre phinisi with air-conditioned cabins and an eight-cabin layout, priced well below the top-tier charter market.

We do not publish a market band for private full-boat charter, because no verified one exists and inventing one would be dishonest. Charter is quoted on request against your dates.

Where do people underestimate?

• Park fees. Charged per person per day inside the park, not once per trip. On a three-day sailing that multiplies.

• Tips. Discretionary but customary. A phinisi crew of eight or more looks after you around the clock. Budget for it rather than being caught out on the last morning; cash in rupiah, given to the crew collectively, is the norm.
• Flight changes. The DPS–LBJ route delays. Building in a buffer night costs less than a missed international connection.
• Dive extras. Diving is usually included in dive packages, but equipment rental, nitrox, park fees and tips are commonly billed separately.
• The hotel nights either side. One before, ideally one in Bali after. Two nights that are not on the boat invoice at all.

How do you get the cost down without ruining the trip?

1. Take a lower-deck cabin. Superior at IDR 5,000,000 sails the same route, eats the same food and sees the same mantas as the Royal Suite. It also moves least, which suits anyone worried about motion.
2. Travel in the shoulder or wet season. April, May, November and January to March carry lower demand, and the wet months have the best manta odds in the south — see our month-by-month season table.
3. Share a cabin. The additional-person rate of IDR 4,250,000 is well below a second full fare.
4. Book the flight early. Domestic fares to LBJ rise sharply close to peak-season departure.

Is a Komodo liveaboard cheaper than staying in a hotel and doing day trips?

Compared like for like it is closer than it looks, because the fare includes accommodation, all meals, drinking water, snorkelling equipment and crew, replacing hotel nights, restaurant meals and daily transfers.
